Maine Emergency Medical Services With offices located at: Director: Jay Bradshaw Maine EMS is the bureau within the Department of Public Safety that is responsible for the regulation and oversight of the EMS system, including Emergency Medical Dispatchers and EMD Centers. Maine EMS follows the National Standard Curricula for training and uses the National Registry of EMT for BLS and Paramedic exams. Maine EMS will accept NREMT certification as part of the reciprocity process for Basic EMT, EMT-I (I-99 only), and Paramedic levels. Complete reciprocity information can be found here. The Maine EMS system includes 6 independent regional offices who provide training, and support services in their geographic areas on issues such as: quality assurance, medical control, and mutual aid. Information about the Maine EMS regional councils may be found here. License courses that begin after January 1, 2010, must be conducted by an approved Training Center. As of 12/1/09, approved Training Centers are: Northeast Maine EMS, Northern Maine Community College, and Southern Maine Community College. EMD in Maine follows the training and protocols developed by Priority Dispatch Corp. As of July 1, 2010, in order to be licensed in Maine, Emergency Medical Dispatchers will be required to maintain certification by the National Academies of Emergency Medical Dispatch.
